Best thing about this PSU is that it can run from battery. I paired it with buffered PSU (power-one) which can deliver up to 6 A @ 13.8 V and has 14 Ah battery attached. My set (EPIA SN1000+1GB RAM + 4 x WD10EADS + PQI 8GB CF + Senao NMP-3601 miniPCI WI-FI, Linksys SD2008 8 port gigabit switch* and siemens DSL bridge*) can run 6 hours on battery ! Then it takes about the same to recharge it... Now I'm experimenting with better first stage PSU to be able to use 65 Ah battery (~ 24 h battery power !) After careful calculations and tuning both hardware and software (Linux Debian) I'm able to run four 3,5'' drives on this PSU. Amperage never exceeds 3,5 A (mostly startup) and is ~ 1,3A (18 W) in average. Total usage is ~263 kWh yearly (computer running 24hpd) which roughly translates to 65 euros (depending on location) electricity bill per year. *) both switch and bridge are powered directly from first stage psu at 13,8V they draw less than 0,7A average |
